The ATRC invites you to its next webinar to learn about sustainability as required in the Active Transportation Program Guidelines (Section I: Sustainability) and hear from two California Active Transportation Program projects which have maintained active transportation activities beyond their funding period. The speakers will discuss how they were able to secure continued funding for these activities.

The ATRC's Introduction to Active Transportation Planning and Design training is now available as a self-paced, online course. This free course is intended to introduce active transportation planning and design concepts to planners, engineers, public health practitioners, community-based organizations, and other champions with no or limited experience with the topic.

Research shows that active transportation promotes lifelong physical activity by embedding movement into daily routines. Daily physical activity offers significant health benefits by controlling or preventing chronic disease and promoting positive mental health. Chronic diseases and mental health conditions account for most U.S. healthcare spending, consuming approximately $3.7 to $4.9 trillion annually. Physical inactivity, specifically, contributes to about 1 in 10 premature deaths in the U.S.
