Thank you to everyone who participated in the Active Transportation Program Symposium last month! Over 275 individuals attended in-person and almost 250 joined the keynote and plenary sessions virtually.
Highlights from the Symposium included:
- Welcome and opening remarks featuring Darnell Grisby, Chair, and Tanisha Taylor, Executive Director, of the California Transportation Commission (CTC)
- An inspiring keynote from Rachel Carpenter, Chief Safety Office at Caltrans, on the shift to the Safe Systems Approach in California and across the US and an exciting announcement on the recent signing of the Joint Secretary’s Policy on Road Safety by the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) and the California Health and Human Services Agency.
- Plenary sessions on the climate and resiliency and active transportation and engagement and cross-sector collaboration
- 12 breakout sessions on topics from art and active transportation to crafting a compelling grant narrative, and everything in-between
- 4 workshop sessions including a presentation on the Counts+ optional performance metrics pilot, and a demonstration of Ecology Action’s Bike Safe and Walk Safe programs
- A keynote from Dr. Adonia Lugo, CTC Commissioner, reflecting on her experience as a Commissioner and exploring the directions that active transportation may take in the future
- Closing remarks from CTC Commissioners, Dina El-Tawansy, Director, Caltrans and Toks Omishakin, Secretary, CalSTA
- Pre-symposium tours on bike, foot, and by transit and the launch of the Introduction to Active Transportation Planning and Design training
- Networking opportunities galore!
