Quick Build Projects are eligible in the Active Transportation Program (ATP) as a special project type with its own unique application. Both quick builds (and related but distinct temporary demonstration projects) provide an exciting opportunity for communities to apply and test context sensitive designs and configurations within the roadway in areas of immediate need. Moreover, quick builds present a meaningful way to engage, educate, and encourage people to try new walk or bike-friendly roadway designs, and to incorporate user feedback for changes and improvements before a more permanent infrastructure project is constructed. Quick Build projects help to accelerate Complete Streets for all ages and abilities through their rapid installation, more streamlined processes for project delivery, and by using less permanent, lower cost, and pre-approved materials that can be more easily removed or replaced.
The purpose of this webinar is to broaden public understanding of ATP-specific quick build and demonstration project definitions, eligibilities, and California Transportation Commission (CTC) and Caltrans standards and expectations for ATP investments. This webinar includes key presentations from Caltrans Headquarters ATP Managers who have been coordinating closely with the California Transportation Commission on refining ATP Quick Build guidance and supplemental resources. Additional speakers with quick build and demonstration project implementation experience discuss planning, implementation, and evaluation strategies and other lessons learned through their efforts.
Our mission is to provide resources, technical assistance, and training to transportation partners across California to increase opportunity for the success of active transportation projects.
